History :
The Department of History, University of Lucknow is one of the oldest Departments of History in the country. Its history dates back to 1922, when it was known as the Department of History. The department was bifurcated to Department of Medieval and Modern History and Western History in 1972-73. The department has been enriched by the stalwarts like Professor K.R. Qanungo, Professor S.N. Das Gupta, Professor N.L. Chatterjee, Professor G.S. Mishra, Professor Nural Hasan, Professor R.N. Nagar and Professor S.N. Qanungo. Currently, the department is under the stewardship of Professor V.D. Pandey, a well known expert in the field of Regional History (Awadh and UP) and Indian National Movement.
